Explore Munich on our Private Tours Via Bus and Car!
Coming to Munich with a group larger than eight people and seeking a Munich private tour? A bus? Perhaps advice and consultation? Tell us what you’re thinking and let us help!
Private tours with one of our driver/tour guides usually start with pick-up at your hotel at 8:00 a.m. and generally last until about 6:00 p.m., sometimes a bit longer. It’s your time, your tour, and naturally, you call all the shots. Most of our guests choose one of the following three itineraries, each of which has several possible variations and options depending on your interests, the weather, etc. Final decisions regarding exact itineraries are determined or confirmed on the morning of the Munich private tour in consultation with your guide. We can do group tours as well, small or large, you name it!

Usual Itinerary:
8:30 – Pick up from your hotel
9:45 – 11:00 – After arrival in the alpine village of Garmisch at the foot of Germany’s tallest mountain, the Zugspitze where we usually first visit an amazing spot for a great photo and then proceed to the famed Ludwigstrasse in the heart of Garmisch’s adjacent and sister village of Partenkirchen.
11:00 – 11:30 – Drive to Ettal where we can briefly visit the 14th-century monastery and view its spectacular baroque basilica.
11:45 – 13:00 – Drive to and visit of Linderhof Palace and gardens, including time for the optional tour of the palace interior.
13:00 – 13:30 – Drive to a spectacular alpine lake in the Austrian Alps (yes, we will be in Austria on this tour!)
1:30 – 2:15 – Lunch at an excellent lakeside restaurant with a spectacular view!
2:15 – 3:00 – continue on our lovely alpine drive to the location of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, back in Germany. Parking and quick purchase of tickets.
3:00 – 3:30 – walk up to bridge slightly above the castle’s elevation (alternatively we can take the bus up the back road and spare ourselves the uphill walk, however not in winter!)
3:35 – 3:45 – walk 10 minutes downhill to castle entrance.
3:55 – 4:45 – a tour of the castle interior
4:45 – 5:15 – walk back down to the car, briefly visit Alpsee (gorgeous lake and view) and see Hohenschwangau castle up close.
5:30 – departure for return to Munich with arrival generally around 7:15 pm
Although the above example is how we generally do this tour there is plenty of room for flexibility and to customize the day to your interests.
Examples of alternative options include, yet are not limited to:
- Hiking through a spectacular waterfall gorge (1 hour, 3€ p.p.)
- visiting the famous village of Oberammergau (30 mins, free)
- experience the world’s longest (6-minute hectic ride downhill) all-weather alpine roller coaster (allow for 1 hour in total, 11€ p.p.)
- swimming in an alpine lake (15-30 mins. free, of course!)
- doing a bike ride (60 – 90 minutes, free!)
- doing a tandem paraglide (60 – 90 minutes, 150€ per person), among others.
Naturally there is not enough time in the day to do ALL of these things as well as those in the sample itinerary above, but your guide will consult with you about what you would prefer to omit in exchange for a different activity or place.

All three of these destinations are south-east of Munich and it is possible to combine two of the three destinations unless of course you opt to spend a full day in either Berchtesgaden or Salzburg. It’s your private tour to enjoy as you like and plans can be made or changed with your guide while already underway. Squeezing in an extra activity is often possible under certain circumstances but does require an extra payment of 100€ directly to the tour guide at the end of the day as arrival back in Munich would not be until the late evening.
Herrenchiemsee Palace – this half-day option includes taking a ferry from the shore of spectacular Lake Chiemsee to Ludwig II’s copy of / tribute to the Palace of Versailles which is on an island. This destination can be combined with either a half day in Salzburg or a half day in Berchtesgaden, where we would visit either the Eagle’s Nest or take an unforgettable boat ride across the Königsee. (see below)
Half or full day in Salzburg – The charming and impressive old city center of Salzburg is a UNESCO World Heritage site and absolutely worth visiting, especially for anyone who has never been there before. Your driver tour guide can walk you through the historic old town within as little as two hours but you may prefer to spend the entire day in Salzburg instead. A complete ‘Sound of Music tour’ including visits to Hellabrunn Palace and the nearby Lake District as well as a visit to the fortress overlooking the old town are all options we can cover in a full day. You can decide on the day of your tour how you would most like to spend your time.
Half or full day in Berchtesgaden National Park area, location of the famed Eagle’s Nest You can choose to spend either half or the entire day in the gorgeous Berchtesgaden National Park area which is surrounded by mountains and the border with Austria. It is here that Adolf Hitler chose to live and a visit to his famed teahouse (Eagle’s Nest) atop Mt. Kehlstein with incredible views (when the weather plays along, of course!) takes roughly three hours, allowing us to be able to include a short visit to Salzburg or to Herrenchiemsee Palace on the same day. You may however prefer to not miss the opportunity to experience an unforgettable boat ride across the pristine and absolutely gorgeous Königsee with non-stop breathtaking views, to the 12th century monastery St. Bartholomew where we can eat and drink at what we regard to be, hands down, the most idyllic beer garden on the planet.
Tough choices, huh? We know! But alas! Naturally, it is also an option for us to take you out two or more days in a row!

This ambitious tour brings you from Munich to Nürnberg where we will walk you through the most interesting sites in the old town and to the castle overlooking the city. After this 2-hour walking tour we enjoy an excellent lunch together in the heart of the city before embarking on the 1-hour+ drive to the famed medieval village of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
Here, we spend approximately 2 hours exploring the center of the charming town and walking along its 700++ year-old wall before driving back to Munich. Naturally dropping you off in Rothenburg is also an option, which would enable you to also experience the famous and entertaining Tour of the Nightwatchman, which begins at 8:00 pm.
