🏰 Neuschwanstein Castle Rules
Strict Punctuality: Castle entry is time-stamped to the minute. If a guest is late for their specific slot, the ticket is voided with no refund.
No Interior Photography: Photos and videos are strictly prohibited inside the castle to preserve the historic art and furniture.
The “300 Stair” Rule: The interior tour involves climbing and descending over 300 stairs. There is no elevator for the general public.
Bag Policy: Large backpacks, bulky bags, and strollers are not allowed inside. These must be left on the bus.
🚶 Mobility & Physicality
The Uphill Ascent: Reaching the castle requires a steep 30–40 minute walk. While a shuttle bus is available for a fee, it still requires a 10-minute walk on an incline from the drop-off point to the entrance.
Bike Ride Proficiency: For the Alpine Bike Ride, guests must be confident on a bicycle. We reserve the right to refuse participation for safety reasons if basic skills are not demonstrated.

Cash is King: The castle tickets and mountain shuttle must be paid in cash. Credit cards are not accepted for these specific items.
Student Verification: To receive the student rate, groups must present a participant list on official school letterhead with dates of birth. Without this, the full adult price will be charged.
🛑 Prohibited Activities
No Drones: Flying drones is strictly illegal in the castle grounds and the surrounding Alpine forest. Local police enforce this with heavy fines.
No Smoking/Vaping: Smoking is prohibited inside the castle and on the shuttle buses.

To ensure a safe and successful student field trip, please note these essential guidelines:
Physical Demands: This tour is active. Students must be able to complete a 90-minute bike ride and a steep 20-minute uphill hike. The castle interior includes over 300 stairs with no elevator access. Bus transfers are also available the cost of which is to be carried by the Leader of the Student Group.
Water Safety: Swimming in the Alpine lake is optional and at the group’s own risk. There are no lifeguards on duty; teachers/chaperones must supervise students at all times.
Cycling Safety: Helmets are provided and mandatory for all students. Participants must have basic cycling proficiency to join the ride.
Road & Group Safety: Students must follow the guide’s instructions strictly during transit and while cycling on public paths. We maintain a “buddy system” to ensure no one is separated from the group.
Supervision: School staff remain responsible for student behavior and headcounts throughout the day.

- Castle Entry & Punctuality
Time-Stamping: Castle tours are governed by a strict, computer-controlled entry system. If you are not present at the turnstile at your exact assigned second, your ticket is automatically voided. No refunds or re-entries are possible for missed slots.
Sold-Out Dates: While we guarantee access to our pre-booked block of tickets, these are subject to the Bavarian Palace Administration’s operational availability. In the extremely rare event of a site closure (e.g., extreme weather or state visits), we will offer an alternative itinerary.
- Physical Requirements & Mobility
Self-Assessment: This tour is physically demanding. By booking, you acknowledge that you and your party are capable of a 24-minute steep uphill walk and climbing 300+ stairs.
Accessibility: Neuschwanstein is a historic monument and is not wheelchair accessible for general tours. Use of the limited elevator must be requested weeks in advance and is not guaranteed.
Liability: Guests participate in hiking, walking, and transit at their own risk. Mike’s Tours is not responsible for injuries resulting from a guest’s failure to wear appropriate footwear or follow guide instructions.
- Alpine Bike Ride & Swimming
At Your Own Risk: Participation in the optional bike ride and lake swim is entirely voluntary.
Helmets: Helmets are provided and mandatory for all cyclists. We reserve the right to refuse the bike ride to any guest who cannot safely operate a bicycle.
Water Safety: There are no lifeguards on duty at the Alpine lake. Mike’s Tours accepts no liability for incidents occurring during swimming or lakeside activities.
- Photography & Drones
Interior Ban: Interior photography/videography is strictly forbidden by the Palace Administration. Violation may result in immediate removal from the castle without a refund.
Drone Ban: The use of drones (UAVs) is strictly illegal in the entire Hohenschwangau/Neuschwanstein area. Local authorities issue heavy fines for violations.

Verification Required: To receive the student rate, you must provide the required school letterhead and DOB list. If this is missing, the Castle Administration will charge the full Adult rate at the gate.

To get the discounted rate, the Palace Department requires an official list of students (including Names and Dates of Birth) on a School Letterhead. This must be presented to the guide on the day. This rate only applies to students aged 17 and under. Everyone else pays the Adult rate of 25,50€.

We require at least one teacher or chaperone per 15 students. While our guide leads the tour and history, the school staff remains responsible for student behavior and headcounts throughout the day.

Unfortunately, the castle interior is a historic site with no elevator for the general public. If a student has a physical disability, please contact us at least 4 weeks in advance so we can attempt to arrange the very limited lift service with the Castle Administration.
