The story behind Mike's Bike Tours

Greetings from the Beer Drinking Capital of the World at the Foot of the Alps - Munich!

My name is Michael Lasher. I moved to this great city from Long Island, NY in October, 1993. In the summer of 1994 while working in management for McDonald's in Tourist Central (Tal, Marienplatz), I realized that no one was addressing the needs of the seemingly lost, lonely, bored and often visibly frustrated English-speaking travellers in Munich at all.

One day while riding my bike along the Isar river, a brilliant idea struck me. Like two-plus-two equals four, I suddenly realized that by far, the best way to see this city is by bicycle! Only moments later I was convinced that I would start a company which I would name, Mike's Bike Tours of Munich.

The following May (1995), after doing historical research, buying 20 used bikes and printing a modest brochure, among other necessary measures, I quit my job at McDonald's and started showing people a lot more of the city than most had been experiencing on their own. In 1997 I started Mike's Bike Tours Amsterdam. After 15 seasons of consitent commitment to excellence in Munich and 13 in Amsterdam (as per June, 2010), we have earned our outstanding reputation which truly precedes us when it comes to entertaining and informative tours. We have sent away tens of thousands of visitors, literally raving about Munich, our superb service, value and most of all… how much FUN they had with us. We have had what we do down to a science for quite a while at this point, and we are as committed today as ever to continue to truly deserve the reputation as the best in our business.
