Q: Is the cost for the tour of the interior of the castle included?
A: The tour of the interior of Neuschwanstein castle is not included in the price of our tour. The tour of the castle interior costs an extra €11, however, those under 18 years of age are FREE. This is OUR discounted price. Tickets usually cost individuals €12. This (optional) extra fee is to be paid directly to our tour guide, Brad, at the end of the day, as he buys the tickets with cash on hand in the morning and needs to be reimbursed directly.
Q: Do we have a break for lunch on this Neuschwanstein castle tour?
A: Yes! Of course we don’t expect you to go hungry throughout the day. We usually enjoy lunch together at an inexpensive restaurant at the base of the mountain where the alpine slide is. A meal and a beverage only cost about €10.
Q: What time to do we get back to Munich from this Neuschwanstein castle tour?
A: Our Neuschwanstein castle tours almost always arrive back in Munich 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.
Q: Does one need to be in good condition to do the bike ride or the hike through the gorge?
A: First off, all of our activities are optional, so if one does not wish to or cannot for whatever reason, there are other possibilities. The bike ride does not include any hills and lasts for about 90 minutes, including several breaks. If you are pretty sure or even think you could make it, there is almost certainly no cause to worry, as it is easier than most would imagine it to be. The hike through the gorge is an uphill walk for about 40 minutes, with numerous opportunities to break. It is not much more strenuous than walking up the paved street for a good half hour. Guests not wanting to take this walk with the group can elect to take the bus (€2) to the top of the hill, which minimizes the ammount of walking as much as possible. Brad organizes to meet those taking the bus at the entrance at an appointed time, which is never a problem.
Q: Is our Neuschwanstein castle tour appropriate for kids?
A: Yes! Kids under 15 come along for half price, under 5 for FREE. If you want to do the bike tour with a 4 year old child or younger, we have bikes with child seats. We also have 24” mountain bikes for kids that can ride well that are at least 7 years old. Kids that are five and six years old are generally too big for the above mentioned seat and too small to ride a 24" bike, in which case we would recommend forgoing the bike ride. There is a nice playground including trampolines with a safety harness right near where we begin and end our bike tour, which is also where the alpine slide is, for which each run only costs our guests €1.80. Other options include taking a paddle boat out onto the Alpsee, which is the lake in the background of the classic photo of Neuschwanstein castle, or taking the tour of the interior of the Hohenschwangau Castle where Ludwig II grew up as a lad and dreamt of excavating the site of a much older castle that stood where Neuschwanstein is today.
Q: What other expenses are not included on this Neuschwanstein castle tour?
A: The castle entrance fee of €11 per adult, lunch, which is about €10 for a meal and beverage, approximately €1.80 per run on the alpine slide and a customary gratuity for Brad, recommended €2 per person.
Q: What can we do alternatively if we do not want to go on the bike ride?
A:
- The bike ride is only about 1.5 hours of the day. Families with young kids may want to use the trampolines or the alpine slide and enjoy the playground where we begin and end the bike tour and stay with the group for lunch and the rest of the day.
- Alternatively, one can take the gondola up to the top of the Tegelberg (and back down) and enjoy an amazing view. The cost is €17 for adults, €8.50 for kids under 15 or €38 for two adults and one child or €44 for two adults and two children.
- One can also choose to also take the tour of the interior of Hohenschwngau castle, which would cost an extra €11 This must be booked with us on the morning of the tour. Our coach will bring you from where our bike tour starts to where this castle is (which is very close to the path up to Neuschwanstein castle is as well). From there you would need to walk about 10-15 minutes uphill. This alternative keeps you separated from the rest of the group until 4:00, at which time you would meet them at the entrance to Neuschwanstein and come back down with them and naturally, back on the same coach to Munich at about 5:30.
Q: How far in advance shall we book a tour, especially for tours during Oktoberfest?
A: For group bookings we would like to have as much advance notice as possible. For smaller parties minimally 2 to 3 days is usually OK. Bookings on the day before the day of the tour are usually possible. Last minute bookings on the morning of the tour (just showing up) are naturally a matter of good fortune, but are often possible as well. However, tours during the Oktoberfest are almost always full and one should book and pay as far in advance as possible.
Q: Do you offer Neuschwanstein castle tours in the winter?
A: Our Neuschwanstein castle tours as advertised here are only offered on the dates scheduled as per the information at Tour Details. We do not offer Neuschwanstein castle tours between early October through March, however, tours for groups of any size as well as Private Tours by car or minivan for up to 8 persons can be arranged.
